odot taking over the scene and let's show you that odot camera and they're directing traffic to use the left two lanes. over to jackie now. and 5:00 in our coverage of a deadly fire continues this morning and sarah phinney is live where they're collecting donations for the community. they're really coming together, sarah. >> reporter: absolutely, jackie and this is one of the few times saint ambrose has been quiet since the deadly fire happened monday night and there was a steady stream of people with huge bags full of donations coming here to the hall. i want to show you what that lookings like inside. it's incredible. there are tables full of clothing and bags full of food and lots of battled part. fifty people displaced in the fire. there were dozens of volunteers going through the mountains of items last night. hearts heavy, though, thinking of the four-year-old girl who

one family lost everything but are thankful to have each other. >> and with him, i don't know what i would do if i lost him. and that is my world i would be crushed if you lost him. >> and as you saw, there are a lot of items that have been donated and saint ambrose is asking for monetary donations for the families affected by the fire and there is also a vigil scheduled tonight at 845time at the apartments and in honor of the little girl who died. sarah phinney, newschannel 5. >> and thank you. investigators have not determined a cause yet. and they say a sprinkler system could have prevented the fire from spreading and a discarded here. the assistant fire chief said it likely started outside of floor. in that area, they have had cigarette fires in the past. >> and people come in, you

it's like mulch or the grass is dry and it creeps up and stuff like that. >> and he said the complex had working smoke detectors and was not required to have a sprinkler system because of the building's age and they're looking into possible problems with a nearby heating system. and this morning, cleveland police are investigating a shooting near gudell park. it happened around 8 last night. and a 30-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to metro. arrests. >> and a six-year-old is recovered after being caught in the cross fire in lorain. she was inside her home when she was shot. two groups were fighting with each other outside when the shots were fired. >> and she was -- they don't care who they're shooting at. they're in harm's way for what? because of an argument at a bar?

for aggravated and other charges. the little girl suffered own minor injuries, corrina. and breaking overnight, democrat bernie sanders pulling the upset in michigan and earning 65 more delegates and that brings his total now to 571. still way behind hillary clinton, though. she's at 1,221 delegates after her win in miss sippy and as for the republicans, another big night for donald trump, winning michigan, mississippi, and hawaii. he has 446 delegates, ted cruz taking idaho and that brings his delegate count to 347 and marco rubio has 151 and our governor, john kasich has 54. and this is a look at the other state's voting. the republicans in d.c. and guam and the democrats in the northern marianna islands and next tuesday, we join voters in florida, illinois, missouri, and republicans in the northern

another big race happening in ohio's primary next week. the state's primary for u.s. senate. many candidates scored major endorsements. gabrielle giffords is throwing her support by former governor ted strickland. she was shot during an event in 2011 and called him the best candidate to not only protest the rights of laws violating gun owners but to stand up to the possible gun lobby. >> he's young and energetic, he's right on the issues and he'll make a very forceful senator. >> the gun control issues wise and -- [ indiscernible ] supporting the opponent. a cleveland man who hit his girlfriend's father with the car fractured his leg and ran from the scene last week has been caught by police. anthony coggin has been charged with assault and abduction after he and his girlfriend got into a fight outside of the cleveland clinic.

two cars after getting out to confront him. and his girlfriend said that he held her against her will. and a new study said that more pedestrians are dieing in traffic accidents across the nation. ohio saw the largest increase than any other state. from 2049-2015, ohio stay a 124% increase in pedestrian traffic deaths and this is why. cell phones. too many people use them and they're distracting drivers and walkers. another reason, low gas prices. they're putting more drivers on the road than before. and new developments in the pilot flying investigation. we now know the former president of the company and seven others won't face trial until next year. they're accused of ripping off customers in a fuel rebate scheme. the trials were supposed to start next month but the attorneys say they need more time to prepare so they will go

go to a ballot for voters to decide. and suspects in the weekend shooting of an idaho pastor was arrested in front of the white house. the secret service found kyle odom and arrested him. he was last seen on security camera footage and allegedly shot a pastor who is expected to be okay. the motive for the attack, it appears, was planned. and investigators think recent rains triggered a mud slide causing -- causing a train to derail in california yesterday. and all 214aboard survived and 9 people were injured. and 5:12 right now in the race for the white house, governor john kasich happy to be in a buckeye state and kissing the ground in columbus yesterday. and he is in a position to be the first ohioan since robert task to win an ohio presidential primary. and before speaking at a crowd, he spoke one-on-one with john

another cooldown and i am looking at long-term forecasting and however, we're going to see a warm weather and that is going to be nice out there. 57 degrees in cleveland and 49, medina and 48 degrees in wooster and this is above the normal high for our normal days in march. 53 degrees in millersburg and 58 in menner. and this is that look at the forecast. going through the day, i am seeing 70 degrees this afternoon and a lot of cloud coverage. and not as much sun as we have seen earlier in the week and this is because of the rain on the way and this issy look at the satellite and radar and beginning to make its way in and that is to come. and both guiding you with the picture. by 8:15 a.m., you see the rain to the north of us and north of lake erie and you can get clipped with some sprinkles in lake county and ashtabula this

for your wednesday, we're going to see a lot of cloud coverage more than anything. sunshine breaking out here and there and helping the temperatures to rise and this is where things change. into the overnight hours, we'll see that rain move in. the first round around 8:30. and check it out for your thursday and we have a good amount of rain sticking around the entire day and that is going to be a wet day and with temperatures like this, the warm air, we get instability in the atmosphere, i wouldn't be surprised to see the thunder roll and this is a look at the seven-day forecast. i want you to notice something. cooldowns into the 30s the next few days and notice the highs and they're still manageable in the 60s and of as-- 50s. and this is 271 and broadway and that right lane is blocked and they had a diesel spill earlier, 271 northbound

>> whether it's consensual or not is not an issue and that was wrong. that is what we hang our heads on. it's wrong and shouldn't have occurred. >> and smith was with the distribute for 10 years before resigning and she a -- had a clean record and it's possible she could lose her license. a school board accepted a teacher's resignation this week. and the 32-year-old was put on leave after accused of misconduct and that investigation is still ongoing. and breaking overnight, this girl is 15-year-old mikala barrett and police need your help finding her. she hasn't been seen since 12:30 yesterday afternoon. friends say she walked away from school and they think she was going to get lunch. she is 5 feet tall, 135 pounds, blue eyes, brown hair and last seen dressed all in black and please call police if you have any information.

are investigating another attempted abduction. an elyria high school student was offered a ride by a guy near yale avenue and this happened yesterday and he was described as a white male with gray hair and beard and there were five attempted abductions in the area and all on the same day. a community is coming together to help those who -- everything they own and donations are pouring in to help 24 different families and sarah phinney is live with more where tops of donations have been coming in. good morning, sarah. >> reporter: good morning. it's incredible to see the amount of donations that have been made here at saint ambrose church. hundreds of people have been coming here pretty much throughout the day yesterday and with big bags of items. and i want to show you what it looks like inside. there are tables full of sweaters and blankets and food. everything they might need. a countless number of

items last night. everything is going to feed at least 50 people who lost their homes in the fire monday night. and just a few minutes away from here and that blaze killed a four-year-old girl and her death is remaining heavily on volunteers. as you saw from that video, there is a large number of items here. right now, saint ambrose is asking for monetary donations for the victims of the fire and there is a candle light vigil planned for tonight for the victims of the fire, including, of course, the four-year-old who died at 845time at the -- 8:45 at the apartment complex where it happened. >> and thank you. and this morning, cleveland police believe they're close to finding the people responsible in tremont. windows busted out of more than 50 cars this month alone. police say that people living in that neighbor are helping to crack the case here and made an

the feels like temperatures not too long ago is feeling warmer in some spots than it is and that is because of the clouds there. that is good news. today, the highs going to 70 degrees and breaking through just before that rain approaches this evening and the 6:00 hour. and we're going to talk about the timing. >> and let's talk about what is happening around ohio now. the classes cancelled at east high school and youstown. the school will close when a large fire broke out and dozens of officers were called in and they ended up spraying students with pepper spray. six people were taken away in handcuffs, including a father trying to get into school. the superintendent decided to close the school to give students a chance to calm down. and in southwest ohio, guns and ammo and knives taken from a home of a 14-year-old accused of shooting several classmates. he's being held at the juvenile did strength center -- detention center on several charges, including attempted murder.
